2022 Budget Provides Skills Boost
A dominant theme in this year's budget has been the need for a stronger workforce. The government has announced a series of skills and education initiatives, including an additional $2.8 billion to support Australian apprenticeships, a 120% tax deduction for small businesses that invest in training employees, and programs to attract women to trades and STEM professions.
Skills shortages are one of the most pressing issues in our industry. Although VET course enrolments are on the rise, more than a third fail to finish their studies. One of the solutions for this is providing greater incentives for businesses to take on an apprentice, and for apprentices themselves to stay the course.
With the ever-changing technology advances within the HVAC&R industry, it is vital for employees to take on continuing professional development. The new tax incentive helps facilitate this, especially for small businesses.
Finally, it's great to see a Budget focused on providing initiatives and funding required to build a stronger skilled workforce within the HVAC&R industry.
