R134a is an HFC refrigerant used in automotive air conditioning and as a replacement for R12 and R22 in medium and high temperature refrigeration applications.

R134a must be handled by appropriately licensed refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians. A-Gas notes that R134a can be charged from either the liquid or vapour phase, but compressor oil compatibility must be checked because compressors must be charged with polyolester oils.
